Weddings at Carmel Mission | California Wedding for Joanie and Anthony

for brides

July 29, 2021

It was only what felt like a few months ago that Joanie and Anthony started planning their wedding. They booked their ceremony at the Carmel Basilica, and their reception at The Perry House. After googling weddings at Carmel Mission and seeing the beautiful photos, I knew this wedding was going to be spectacular to say the least. The weather was perfect. The gathering of friends and family from afar made this extra special. Plus, you cannot go wrong with having two incredible people promise their love for each other.

Hey, there! My name is Dana Arnold and I am a wedding photographer based out of Monterey and Carmel, California. I started my photography business so I can serve couples like Joanie and Anthony. The laid back type; the ones who love to have a good time and just enjoy company from their favorite people.

Weddings at Carmel Mission

On a mostly cloudy day, Joanie and Anthony said I do at the gorgeous Carmel Basilica. Close friends and family from different states, even countries as far as Switzerland, came to see two incredible people get married. Catholic Ceremonies can be traditionally held for about about an hour, but both father and the guest speaker really spoke words from the heart, making this one hour and twenty minute ceremony one I will not forget. I think my favorite moment? Them walking out of the Basilica.

There was something about that moment. Anthony and Joanie were hand-in-hand, and tourist from outside were cheering them on as they walked away from the place that will always hold a spot in their heart. To finish this lovely time, we photographed some beautiful photos of our bride and groom in the courtyard where the fountain is. A perfect location indeed for portraits!

Outdoor Reception

There is no better place to have a fun outdoor reception than at the Perry House. For many reasons, such as the food, the layout space, and the location in a secluded neighborhood. Outside on the patio was their reception, and indoors on the main level you found the dance floor.

If I am being honest, some of the best speeches I have ever heard happened at this wedding tonight. They were long enough to tell a story, but short enough to not get people to be bored. Plus, each toast and speech had such a fun humorous side. I loved getting to know more about Joanie and her love for her job and Anthony with his love to fixing things himself (his engineering side came out). Hearing stories of how they met, how the best-friend of the bride approved of him because he bought them drinks, and much more, lead to a spectacular evening. From dancing with her dad to guest eating the elegant desserts, everyone was having a wonderful time!
