As a wedding photographer who shoots tons of engagement sessions for couples, I get asked this question every single time. “What to wear for an engagement session”. Lucky for you, I am a pro at this. Planning your outfit is based on a couple of things. Here is some inspiration on Engagement Session Outfits!
- The location
- The season you are in
- The style of the photographer’s edits
Using these three main reasons, I have come up with a list of outfits that will help you dress up for your shoot Wether it is on a beach in the summer, or in the woods during the fall. Here is my advice on what to wear for an engagement session.
Summer/Spring Vibes
If you are having your session on a beach or at a botanical garden, here are some outfits you can decide on! For the guys, casual dress pants, a button up, and simple shoes will do. Blues, grays, and whites would be amazing colors to start with. For the girls, mid-length to long dresses, sandals, and maybe a jacket! The colors can also be light, such as coral, peach, white, and floral patterns! When on a beach, the shoes will be off so make sure to keep this in mind!
Fall and Winter Vibes
The fall and winter are not the most popular times to get photos done, however, can be one of the most romantic times. The chilly weather allows you to snuggle up with blankets, or in each others arms. I have shot fall and winter sessions at beaches, at historic parks, and gardens. Here are some ideas to get you going!
For the guys, dress pants, button up, and jacket will do. It will depend on the weather. I find that Maroon, dark blues, grays, and white look incredible on men this time of year. Plaid is also flattering for the dudes.
For the ladies, long dresses with jackets, leggings/jeans with booties, and a cute top with a jacket is also ideal. Again, keep in mind with location! You can wear colors such as olive green, maroon, white, gray, or navy. I have found the color pallets to be endless, and even pinks will look good!
