Shirley and Darrell’s Beautiful Beach Front Wedding at Wyndham Oceanfront| By: Dana Arnold Photography

Picture it. The day is July 13, a hot summer’s day. A beautiful wooden arch wrapped with vines and blue roses sits on the patio of a beachfront hotel in Virginia. The stunning bride, Shirley, is getting ready with her maid of honor in a beautiful hotel room while the groom, a handsome Navy Sailor named Darrell, is just anxiously waiting downstairs. Sitting on the chairs outside, are their close friends and family, waving paper fans and chatting away as their voices flow through the ocean breeze. Soon enough, the bride is walking down the aisle, the groom is smiling with glee, and gasps and “wows” whisper in the wind. Guest from the hotel balconies stop and stare as Shirley walks towards the man she is going to call her husband, best friend, and soul mate for the rest of her life. They say their vows, exchange rings, pulls the sailor’s knot that will forever be tight, and of course, exchange kisses as husband and wife. Guest, tourist, and even people from the restaurant and beaches hoot and holler as they exchange yet another kiss.

Just a few weeks ago, I received a message from a bride that they were getting married in less than two weeks and were in need of a photographer. It was the one day I had available in the month of July and just by exchanging a quick conversation, and getting to know a bit about the bride and groom, that this was going to be one beautiful and intimate wedding. Even though the sun was hot, we were all excited to be gathered around the beautiful couple. I simply love small, military weddings because they are intimate, meaningful, and there is so much time in between to relax, and take beautiful photos during the free time!

What I love about Shirley and Darrell is that these two would not stop staring at each other. Each hint of eye contact was full of giggles and butterflies, that I myself could clearly see the love these two have. As a Navy wife myself, one of my most favorited photos waws from our wedding day because it’s a photo that I cherish when he is deployed. So, being able to capture these moments were near and dear because they both will now have these photos to hold onto forever.

Top Favorite Highlights

  1. The support and help from the guest. Never had I ever had someone offer me to go grab my drink for dinner from the bar. That, along with the help of gathering everyone for photos, and working together as a team to make sure everyone was drinking and hydrated just made me happy.
  2. The love everyone had at the wedding, even though we were all hot and sweaty. Seriously, besides a few jokes, no one complained.
  3. Darrell and Shirley’s Vows. Like, mentioning ghost chasing and getting through the hard times together. Personal written vows are my favorite.
  4. Darrel singing to Shirley during their first dance. Ugh…how romantic!
  5. Darrel’s mom wearing his cover while she dances with a flower in her mouth. She is the type of person I would want as my friend
  6. Oh, and the food Seriously, those crab cakes were delicious!

I am so excited to share some of the highlights from this wedding day! Shout out to the vendor team for making this possible for Shirley and Darrell. <3

I was the maid of honor for this beautiful occasion and I have been in many weddings. I was impressed with Dana’s creativity for the pictures she took. She was very easy to work with and you can tell she is passionate about photography. It felt as if she was a family member doing a favor for the special couple. I would recommend her to anyone needing professional pictures for all occasions. It is great to see that all pictures show the love and support Shirley and Darrell have for each other, while showing how much fun all the family and friends had during the event.

The pictures of the wedding couple are great. But I have to admit, the pic of Lauralee stole the show! Many congratulations to the happy couple. May you have many years of wedded happiness.
